Detour

To say that my “journey” has taken a detour is a bit understated. This has been a 4 year detour! Detour 1 – plantar fasciitis in 2019 stopped my running cold in February at the Pemberton 50k which ended up being a 25k because I could not push my feet any further. Detour 2 – Covid 19! Enough said on that, we all know that racing was halted. Looking on the bright side of Covid Read more…

Mom

Mary Coelho October 8, 1942 – June 27, 2022 Yesterday was a sad day.  A day as children we know will come to us sometime in our life.  The day one of our parents leaves us forever.  Yesterday was that day for me. I knew this woman for 58 of her 79 years.  Some of these years I obviously have no recollection of simply because I was a baby or to young for memories.  Not Read more…

Covid-19 Grateful?

It is currently 4:22am and I have been awake since 2:30am.  My dog Cali looked up at me from her deep slumber annoyed that I woke her.  Even she knew this wasn’t right! Why then do you ask, did I pull myself out of my comfy bed to sit in front of my computer screen at this crazy hour?  I have been working on a project, a new business and it is just about ready Read more…

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

If we thought the two days we spent in Death Valley National Park flew by the fighter jets that surprised us overhead on our way out suddenly made us feel like time stood still.  A low rumble that seemed to be in the far off distance was upon us before we could look up.  By the time we managed to get out of the car they were gone, but not for long.  It was as Read more…

2 Days in Death Valley

We landed in Las Vegas at 10:00am and picked up our rental car and hit the road.  Our summer vacation had begun! We had 8 days of hiking, sightseeing, eating and drinking ahead of us.  We tend to do a lot of research before our trips so we know the sights we want to visit and the restaurants, wineries and breweries as well. The first stop on our way to Death Valley National Park was Read more…

Pemberton Trail 25K & 50K

When we pulled into the McDowell Mountain Regional Park just before 6am it was a brisk 44 degrees and it was still dark.  The Race Director was giving the pre-race meeting to the handful of runners that opted for the early start for the 50k distance.  Steve was also running this race so we made our way over to packet pick-up and grabbed our bib and shirt.  Although they ran big they were a nice Read more…

The Journey – The Prequel

If I am going to be honest with you my journey started before the announcement on January 16, 2019.  It actually began on November 5, 2018. Well, the training started then anyway.  The spark of realization that I was actually contemplating this journey began several months before.  Probably before I even realized there was a spark, maybe it was more like a glimmer. So let me catch you up and fill in the blanks between Read more…

Plantar Fasciitis

Not only is Plantar Fasciitis (PF) every runners nightmare it is a literal pain in the – hmm, hmm foot! I did battle this horrible affliction 8 or so years ago in my left foot and after months of stretching and rolling my foot I found that deep tissue massage of my calf was what really ended it. It has not been so easy this time around. The PF has taken up residence in my Read more…
