To say that my “journey” has taken a detour is a bit understated. This has been a 4 year detour!
Detour 1 – plantar fasciitis in 2019 stopped my running cold in February at the Pemberton 50k which ended up being a 25k because I could not push my feet any further.
Detour 2 – Covid 19! Enough said on that, we all know that racing was halted. Looking on the bright side of Covid 19, this did give me plenty of time to rehab and heal my feet.
Detour 3 – Ankle issues in 2021. When rest and icing did not help I went to see a Podiatrist. I was told I had multiple tears in ligaments and went through a few treatment options and considered stem cell injections which my insurance did not cover. After some research on my part and questioning the Dr. on the stem cells that were to be used I decided to get a second opinion. Here is the take away – Always get a second opinion! This Dr. said all the tears were old injuries and were not causing my pain. I had a small amount of arthritis in the ankle and I could begin running again! So after 5 months of no running at all I slowly began to claw my way back to being a runner.
So you ask now that I have completed the detour where is the journey taking me? I am back on the road to 100! I have been training since November 2022 and building towards my ultimate goal of running a 100 mile race.
The race I have selected is the Hennepin 100 in October. I invite you once again to follow this journey. It may be bumpy but I certainly hope there are no more detours.
